Meet Sheri
Sheri is an experienced college counselor who has the insight of an admissions application reader, the skills of a lawyer, and the understanding of a parent of three children who have applied to college and graduate school. She brings calm to students and their families in an increasingly complex and changing admissions process. Sheri guides her clients through each step of a personalized process with clarity and care. She is warm and approachable and empowers her clients to take ownership of their college application process and present their best selves—with confidence and purpose. With Sheri’s thoughtful planning and organization, students work at a comfortable pace to successfully complete their applications.
Sheri was an undergraduate admissions application reader for American University where she read over 1,000 applications. She knows first hand how colleges evaluate applications. By employing the writing, advocacy, communication and listening skills she used when she practiced law, Sheri prepares her clients to be competitive in their applications.
Sheri believes that the college admissions process is a journey of self-reflection and discovery. She helps her clients develop their interests and works with them to find meaningful extracurricular experiences. With Sheri’s guidance, her clients learn which qualities are important to them when researching colleges and building a balanced list of good fit schools. Through brainstorming exercises, essay development and detailed feedback, she helps students find their voice and effectively share their personal stories.
Sheri advises students who have a wide range of interests, talents and needs, including athletes, artists, STEM students, high achieving students and students with learning differences. She also works with graduate school applicants, including law school, masters and doctoral programs, providing essay and resume / CV support.
After supporting her sons through their college application processes (Columbia University and Claremont McKenna College), Sheri became an independent college counselor earning her certificate in college counseling at UC Berkeley. Before starting her boutique college counseling practice, she practiced with a highly regarded national college counseling group for four years. Sheri also has volunteered as a college counselor with Scholar Match, a non-profit organization supporting first-generation college students from low-income backgrounds and at Skyline High School in Oakland, California.
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sheri lived in Portland, Oregon and Niigata, Japan before returning to California and settling in Mill Valley. In her free time, Sheri enjoys hiking with friends, kayaking, photography, traveling and sustainable gardening. She holds a Bachelor’s degree (Magna Cum Laude) in International Relations from Boston University and a Juris Doctor from The American University Washington College of Law, as well as the Certificate in College Counseling from UC Berkeley. She is a member of the Independent Education Consultants Association and the California, Oregon and Washington State Bar Associations.
